The Society of Occupational Medicine (SOM)
The Society of Occupational Medicine (SOM) is the UK organisation for all healthcare professionals working in or with an interest in occupational health and medicine. We support and guide members throughout their career, from being a student through to retirement. We are the leading voice for the occupational health and medicine profession. As a not-for-profit organisation we exist only to serve our members, which include disability assessors, doctors, ergonomists, health technicians, hygienists, nurses, physiotherapists, and psychologists. Our objects are:
- the protection of the health of people in the workplace
- the prevention of occupational injuries and disease
- related environmental issues
The SOM proactively works with policy makers across the UK. Members are welcome to join our special interest groups (e.g. HAVS, travel medicine). Our Patrons are Lord Blunkett, Sir Norman Lamb, and Dame Carol Black. We work globally through our international regional group and the International Occupational Medicine Society Collaborative. Full members receive hard copy of our journal Occupational Medicine 9 times a year; a monthly e-Newsletter; job and event alerts; discounts for our CPD events and annual conference; and a listing on our Find an OH Professional directory. Amplivox
Amplivox have developed an extensive range of products and services specifically for occupational health. These include accredited training courses, an innovative range of PC based and stand -alone audiometry, spirometry and vison testing equipment, that can also interface to many EMR applications to make a seamless connection between health screening measurements and data management. This significantly reduces and improves workflow (no more print, scan attach!)
Amplivox also provide an extensive range of hygiene consumables for the restart of health screening e.g. Bacterial viral filter mouthpieces for spirometry etc
Finally, we also have made available a new Functional Hearing assessment System (FHAS) specifically for Police and Fire services. Designed to provide hearing acuity (PTA audiometry) and hearing ability (speech in Noise testing) where there is a safety critical hearing standard that is used.
